Congressman Peter Welch is a winner again.

Welch, Vermont’s only U.S. House member, coasted to victory in the Democratic primary yesterday, capturing 88 percent of the vote to 12 percent for Montpelier resident Craig Hill – according to results from 73 percent of the state’s precincts.

Rainy weather and the light menu – only two contested statewide races – kept many Vermonters home. Secretary of State Deb Markowitz says turnout may end up at less than 10 percent of the state’s approximately 430,000 registered voters.
