Weatherfield barn collapses, more winter on the way

Volunteer firefighters had to use chainsaws and an excavator to free a pair of Holstein heifers after the Weathersfield barn they were in collapsed under the weight of snow.

The open-sided barn at the David Fuller farm collapsed about 6 a.m. yesterday, trapping two Holstein heifers under the wreckage.

Fuller and six volunteer firefighters shoveled snow, broke through the debris and cut up barn beams to free the two heifers.

Roof collapses could be a concern this week, as a warm front moves into Vermont late Tuesday bringing more winter weather.
