Waterbury fire stations get second vote

Voters in Waterbury go to the polls this week to vote again on whether to spend nearly $6 million to rebuild the town’s two fire stations.

The borrowing was OK’d by voters Nov. 4, but opponents successfully challenged it, gathering the signatures necessary to force a second vote. That will happen Tuesday.

If it passes, the bond will be used to pay for rebuilding the town and village fire stations at their current locations.

Waterbury Fire Chief Gary Dillon says the existing buildings, which are about 50 years old, are leaky and cramped.
