Water Board rejects Hinsdale neighbors’ appeal

A Charlotte farmer has won a round in his legal battle with neighbors. Dairy farmer Clark Hinsdale wants to build a new barn and a 1.7-acre manure pit in Charlotte. Some neighbors oppose the proposal, because they say the manure could pollute the groundwater.

The neighbors challenged a permit Hinsdale obtained for the manure pit. But on Tuesday, the state Water Resources Board rejected the appeal. The board agreed with Hinsdale that it didn’t have the authority to hear the appeal. A lawyer for the neighbors says he hasn’t had a chance to discuss the decision with his clients.
