(Host) The average temperature recorded at the National Weather Service in Burlington this November was 43 degrees. That makes it the second warmest November on record.

Andy Nash is a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Burlington. He says the region is in a warm pattern that is likely to persist for several weeks.

(Nash) "Patterns tend to lock in in late fall/early winter and it stays that way. So my guess is at least the first half of the winter will end up being warmer than normal."

(Host) Speaking today on VPR’s Vermont Edition, Nash said that typically this time of year, the region should be seeing averages in the 30’s.

But Nash says that just because winter is starting off milder doesn’t mean it will end the same way.

(Nash) "About this time last year we were still talking about ‘where is winter’. And I think we all remember winter just kept on going and going and going."

(Host) A recent survey indicates that there is a warming trend, and that the "new normal" for the climate is about a half degree warmer than it was 30 years ago.
