The Readsboro Electric Light utility will not be sold to Central Vermont Public Service Corp.

Although a majority of voters supported the sale for around $217,000 and a donation to the town’s playground committee, the majority fell short of the 60 percent needed to sell the utility.

There were 156 "yes" votes and 117 "no" votes. The town utility has around 300 ratepayers.

Readsboro Select Board Chairman Raymond Eilers says the sale proposal was prompted by the need for system improvements.
