Vt. Sets Perch Limit For Berlin Pond

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife has reduced the number of yellow perch anglers can catch on Berlin Pond to 10 fish per day.

For decades fishing on Berlin Pond had been prohibited, but last year the state Supreme Court ruled fishing is allowed.

This is the first winter people have been allowed to fish on Berlin Pond. The state says some anglers have caught large numbers of yellow perch with some reaching the 50-fish daily limit.

Biologists say the previously unexploited fish population of the Pond is vulnerable to fishing.

Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Patrick Berry says reducing the perch limit will help protect the fishery while allowing anglers to take some perch home for dinner.
