New figures show Vermont’s and the nation’s economies were damaged more during 2008 – especially late in the year – than initial reports indicated.

The Vermont Labor Department says the state lost 11,000 jobs last year, almost twice as many that were first reported. Almost half of those job losses came during the month of December.

That mirrored national trends, which showed the economy going off a cliff at the end of the year.

Gross Domestic Product figures from the U.S. Commerce Department show that the national economy declined 6.2 percent in the last three months of the year, the biggest drop since 1982.
