(Host) The Vermont National Guard is assisting the Agency of Transportation in getting flood-ravaged roads back in shape.

And Major General Michael Dubie says equipment and supplies are coming in from guard units around the country.

(Dubie) "Maine has come down in big numbers, almost 200 soldiers with earth-moving equipment, bulldozers, dump trucks, those types of things."

Dubie says dump trucks are also en route from at least seven states. He says those trucks are a major component in road repair.

(Dubie) "We call it horizontal engineering, which means we’re moving dirt to assist Agency of Transportation in re-establishing roads that can be covered by a normal vehicle."

Dubie says many roads around the state are still only passable by emergency vehicles.
