The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is launching a national search for a new deer project leader.

The position is responsible for the department’s efforts to manage the state’s deer population and maximize hunting opportunities.

New Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Patrick Berry says the biologist will analyze deer habitat and population data to help develop annual hunting season recommendations. He says filling the position quickly is one of his top priorities.

Former deer project leader, wildlife biologist Shawn Haskell, recently stepped down after three years at the post.
