The Vermont attorney general’s office has issued $10,000 in civil penalties against a landlord who was accused of filing a false lead paint compliance report about a property in Lyndonville.
Attorney General William Sorrell says the case against Dennis Laferriere is the fifth his office has brought against landlords this year for filing false information in reports on complying with the state’s lead paint removal law.
Sorrell says that in addition to paying the fine, Laferriere has been ordered to bring his property into compliance with the law by the end of November.
The lead law requires owners of buildings built before 1978 to perform what are called essential maintenance practices to remove lead paint hazards.
