Vt helping companies comply with breastfeeding law

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – The Vermont Commission on Women and the Department of Health are offering free assistance to firms as they comply with a new state law accommodating breast-feeding mothers in the workplace.

It’s part of a campaign to ensure women have a private, comfortable workspace for breastfeeding.

State statistics show women with children under the age of 3 comprise the fastest-growing sector of Vermont’s labor force. Advocates say ensuring that new mothers have the freedom and space to pump breast milk at work will bolster the health of babies and improve the productivity of their mothers.
