Members of the Vermont Electric Cooperative are being urged by co-op officials to vote in a special election that includes questions about upgrading the co-op’s transmission grid, an agreement with Hydro-Quebec and other issues. The deadline for ballots to be received at the co-op office is next Monday at 10 p.m.

Members also can vote at a special meeting at the coop headquarters in Johnson. Balloting will be open next Tuesday from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

Some co-op members are describing the transmission line upgrade as a referendum on Green Mountain Power’s planned wind power project on Lowell Mountain.

The line would carry power from the wind turbines into the co-op system.

Co-op CEO David Hallquist has maintained the line is really just a needed upgrade to the co-op’s system.
