The VSO struck its first notes in 1934, a time when cultural opportunities in the area were few and far between.  The orchestra’s musicians who had day jobs as farmers, barbers, doctors and teachers plied roads that were primitive by today’s standards to bring music to appreciative audiences around the state. Alan Jordan is the Executive Director of the VSO and he joins VPR’s Jane Lindholm to share a little history and a preview of the orchestra’s 75 season, which opens this Saturday evening at the Flynn Center in Burlington.
