Sarah Chayes first went to Afghanistan in 2001 to report on the war for NPR.  She stayed to help rebuild the country and serves as an advisor to General Stanley McChrystal who commands the forces in Afghanistan.  Her long experience living with the Afghan people gives her a unique perspective on the U.S. mission there.

She speaks with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about her experiences in Afghanistan and her work with a cooperative that makes skin care products from local crops.
