Homesteading conjures images of a life of complete self-sufficiency:  living off the grid and growing your own food.  But there is no easy definition of the practice and these days there are many different approaches.

VPR’s Steve Zind talks with  Rebecca Kneale Gould, Associate Professor of Religion at Middlebury College and author of "At Home in Nature:  Modern Homesteading and Spiritual Practice in America" and Philip Ackerman-Leist, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Green Mountain College about how we define modern homesteading and what draws people to the lifestyle.
