Five states and the District of Columbia have prohibited all drivers from talking on their cell phones while operating a motor vehicle. A ban on hand held cell phones is part of a larger highway safety bill currently at the Statehouse.

The lead sponsor of the legislation is Moretown Rep. Maxine Grad, who also serves as the vice chairwoman of the House Judiciary committee. Lee Graham serves as the liaison between the Vermont Chiefs of Police and the Governor’s Highway Safety Commission. They spoke with VPR’s Bob Kinzel about the bill.
