Candidates like Republican Mike Huckabee are increasingly using the web to campaign, and they’re using it in a very different way than they use traditional media. But the internet and new technology open a whole new universe of possibilities, from the ridiculous to the serious, and everything in between.

Garrett Graff got his start in politics at a very young age, working for then-governor Howard Dean when he was in high school. He went on to become Candidate Dean’s deputy press secretary. Since 2004 Graff has been writing  about Washington politics and earned the accolade of the first blogger allowed to cover a White House press briefing.

His new book: "The First Campaign: Globalization, the Web, and the Race for the White House" looks at the impact of technology on politics. He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the issue.
