Pity the poor nerd – stereotyped as the gangly guy with the thick glasses and the pocket protector…the awkward girl who’d rather mix chemicals in Science Club than shake pom-poms with the cheerleaders. In the movies, and on television nerds are something of a mystery. But who decides what constitutes nerdiness? Dr. David Anderegg is Professor of Developmental Psychology at Bennington College and a psychotherapist who’s worked extensively with children. He’s also the author of the book "Nerds: Who They Are and Why We Need More of Them." He spoke with VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb about the subject of nerds.
