A Vermont Business Roundtable survey shows chief executives at Vermont’s major companies are cautious about capital spending and employment levels for the summer and fall.

The second-quarter survey also found that CEOs from the state’s top 100 employers are more optimistic about sales volumes for that time period.

The report said "the attitude of the business community appears to have stabilized from the last quarter."

Twenty-one percent of respondents said they expected to increase employment over the next six months, about the same as in the first quarter. Twenty-nine percent expected to have fewer employees, compared with 40 percent in the first quarter.

The survey was conducted at the end of June and released Tuesday.
