Bird enthusiasts around Vermont are participating in the Audubon Society’s annual winter bird count.

The aim of the counting, which occurs between December 14th and January 5th, is to allow researchers to gather data on winter bird populations in Vermont.

In Rutland County, activity peaks this coming weekend, with members and volunteers of the local Audubon chapter setting out across the area’s birding circle to check up on bird populations.

Leaders of the Rutland County effort say they hope to spot 55 different species during a count set for Saturday.
