The Vermont National Guard says an F-16 fighter plane clipped a landing light Tuesday while approaching the Burlington International Airport.

The plane landed safely and the airport remained open.

Guard officials say the ground crew noticed damage to the plane after it landed at about 2 p.m.

The plane was returning to the airport after a training mission.

The National Guard has appointed a board to investigate the incident.

There’s no immediate word on the extent of the damage to the plane or the landing light system.
