VPR founder Ray Phillps dies at 90

Ray Phillips, the founding chairman of Vermont Public Radio and a founder of Vermont Public Television, died Sunday at his home in Essex. He oversaw the development of VPR for nearly 20 years as chairman of the board of directors, leaving that position in 1994.

He was a longtime dean of continuing education at the University of Vermont and was instrumental in establishing the Champlain Shakespeare Festival. Ray Phillips was 90.
