Vermont Public Radio has received the national Edward R. Murrow award for its documentary on the record of former presidential candidate Howard Dean.

The one-hour documentary, Howard Dean: The Vermont Years was produced by VPR last December at the zenith of the candidate’s popularity and momentum. It examines Dean’s profession as a doctor, his early work in the Legislature and his record on key issues that faced the state while he was governor.

The award, sponsored by the Radio-Television News Directors Association is one of 12 given to radio stations from small markets nationwide. In all, 53 news organizations won 74 awards out of an initial pool of 3,182 entries.
