A school board is scheduled to vote on whether to close a public elementary school in North Bennington, which would be re-opened as an independent school.

The North Bennington Prudential Committee is scheduled to vote Thursday night on the future of the North Bennington Graded School.

The Village School of North Bennington would like to use the building.

Town voters approved the idea in January.

The Rutland Herald reports while there has been a presumption that the Village School would open for the 2013-14 school year, school board members said earlier this year that they wouldn’t close the school unless it could be run under the budget voters approved in March of $2.3 million.
