Volunteer Group To Help Vermont Flood Victims

A volunteer group is pitching in to help people affected by Lake Champlain flooding.

Vermont Emergency Management spokesman Mark Bosma says an organization known as Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster will spread out to help people with flood recovery.

The purpose of the national organization is to assist homeowners after a disaster – at no cost – by making available trained, certified volunteers who provide labor to remove mud and sort out debris.

Bosma says the group has been working to assess the places needing the most help, and already has information submitted by people who called 2-1-1 to report damage.

Homeowners are being called in reply to their calls to 211. Appointments will be made with each to have assessors go to the home and assign work crews as needed.
