Vernon at odds with Verizon

When the Vernon Selectboard gave its approval for construction of a pair of cellular towers by Verizon Wireless, it did so with a string attached.

The town wanted Verizon to provide coverage to everyone in town before considering any other towers.

Verizon has been trying to get the OK for two cell towers in Vernon and one in Brattleboro, all of them along the Interstate 91 corridor.

But the Selectboard’s condition has now led to a standoff, with Verizon saying it can’t commit to universal cell coverage in town.

That, in turn, prompted Selectboard Chairwoman Annette Roydon to call a special meeting next Tuesday to resolve the dispute.
