The state of Vermont is going to vote formally today to cast its ballots for President-elect Barack Obama.

The state’s three electors are to gather for a brief ceremony at the Statehouse in Montpelier.

The electors were themselves elected last spring at annual convention of the Vermont Democratic party.

Secretary of State Deb Markowitz says they are bound by law to cast their ballots for President-elect Obama.

Addison County State Sen. Claire Ayer is one of the electors. She says she decided to seek the spot as a way to be connected to the founding of the country.

She says she’s it’s "incredibly cool" to be one of the country’s 538 electors who will formally elect the president.
