Vermonters witness the transit of Venus

Vermonters joined star-watchers the world over this morning to watch the spectacle of Venus passing across the face of the sun. About 30 members of the Vermont Astronomical Society gathered in New Haven at dawn to see the transit of Venus. Nanette Smith, a member of the society, says the weather cooperated and the astronomers got a good look at the event.

The transit of Venus occurs twice about every century. Planetariums all over the world set up telescopes with solar filters for viewing of the transit.
