Vermont is well represented this year on the list of 24 MacArthur Genius grants. Paul Wennberg, who now lives in California, is a 1980 graduate of Harwood Union High School and is a native of Waterbury.

He is now a professor at the California Institute of Technology who is trying to figure out how the atmosphere works. After Harwood, Wennberg went to Oberlin College and then got a doctorate from Harvard University.

Wennberg joins fellow Vermonter Karen Hesse, a Brattleboro children’s writer, in receiving the $500,000, no-strings attached grants.
