According to AAA figures, Vermonters paid at least 30 cents a gallon more at the pump than the national average for regular unleaded gas for nine days this fall.

That means Vermonters spent at least $4.50 more to fill up a 15-gallon tank in the beginning of November.

The gap has narrowed in recent weeks with the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas hitting $1.77 on Friday, compared to $1.92 in Vermont, a 15 cent difference.

An analysis of the last year shows on average Vermont gas prices were 2.7 cents more than the national average.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders said he plans to work with federal government to investigate the price difference.
