There’s almost a sense of relief around Vermont that Election Day is finally here.

Helene Bowser had a smile on her face as she walked out of the Barre Auditorium, where she had just filled out her ballot. She says she’s glad to have the voting done.

"It’s time," she said. "I’m glad today’s here and tomorrow we can start a new day."

Outside the Edmunds Middle School in Burlington, University of Vermont senior Katie Levasseur said she was thrilled to finally cast her ballot. "What got me to the polls today was just being politically active and having my voice heard," she said.

Polling sites across the state will remain open until 7 tonight.

The ballots are full today. In addition to voting for president, Vermonters are choosing candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, governor and five other statewide offices.

All 150 seats in the state House and 30 in the state Senate will be filled in today’s election.
