Vermont Technical College Launches Biomass Project

A new biomass project will help heat the Randolph campus of the Vermont Technical College and give students hands-on experience in the growing field of renewable energy.

Thanks to a $185,000 federal Department of Energy grant, the school will install a wood pellet boiler to heat the campus’s Red Schoolhouse building, which is now served by the college’s central heating system.

The new boiler will help Vermont Tech students test other forms of biomass fuel to better understand which work best in certain environments.

Sen. Bernie Sanders says the Vermont Tech project is part of an effort to make Vermont more energy independent, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create local jobs.
