A Vermont man is due on court next week to change his plea on charges he helped convicted tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown avoid government capture.

Robert Wolffe, of Randolph, Vt., originally pleaded not guilty to charges of aiding and abetting the Browns, formerly of Plainfield. A subsequent indictment joining the cases of Wolffe with three other supporters charged him with the more serious crimes of conspiring to hinder the U.S. government.

In recent days, web postings by Wolffe’s wife indicated he was negotiating with authorities.

Court filings indicate another man in the case, Daniel Riley, of Cohoes, N.Y., may also be negotiating a plea deal with authorities.

Wolffe is due in court December 7th.
