In 2007, Gene Childers was looking for a project. A band teacher at Middlebury Union Middle School, he wanted to write a musical revue that would make people laugh. So he wrote “Vermont Sketches”—a series of monologues, sketches and songs about living in Vermont.

"Vermont Sketches" opened for the first time in 2008. The sketches comment on a variety of subjects, from Vermont’s many seasons to the typical Vermonter’s strong sense of self-reliance.

VPR’s Peter Biello met with Childers backstage at the Middlebury Town Hall Theater.
