The Vermont Department Health is reporting 17 more cases of the swine flu, including at several elementary and high schools.

So far a total 31 people have tested positive for the virus in Vermont.

Health Commissioner Dr. Wendy Davis says the swine flu is clearly in Vermont and there is no longer any need for most people to get tested to find out if they have it. She says anyone who has the flu at this time of year, almost certainly has the new H1N1 virus.

Health care providers are asked to only test and treat people who are very ill and at risk for serious complications or who spend time in high-risk group settings such as long-term care facilities.

People with flu symptoms should stay home.
