Vermont will received more than $400,000 to improve its response to possible acts of terrorism or other emergencies. The funds were announced Thursday by Vermont Senators Jim Jeffords and Patrick Leahy.

The grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency include money to help state and local officials update their procedures on disasters relating to weapons of mass destruction. The money also partially finances new “Citizen Corps” activities, an expansion of emergency response teams, and an assessment of emergency operation centers.
