Vermont ranks number ten in the country for the overall health and well-being of the state’s youth.

Vermont had mixed results on ten health indicators for children in the Kids Count report released today by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Vermont had the second lowest rates of teen births, high school dropouts, and teens not working or attending school. And the state got high marks for having a low percentage low-birth weight babies.

The state’s overall ranking was dragged down by teen, child and infant mortality death rates that were higher than the national average.

New Hampshire came out on top, ranking number one in the country for the health and well-being of the state’s kids.

New Hampshire had the lowest rates of child poverty, teen birth, teens not working or in school and child deaths.
