The crash of a Macedonian Army helicopter returning from a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia has hit home for some Vermont National Guard soldiers.

The Guard has had a partnership with Macedonia since 1995. Among the 11 killed in the crash were soldiers who had been integral to Partnership 2007. That mission was a May 2007 visit to Macedonia involving thirty Vermont business, education and National Guard leaders.

Adjutant General Brian Dubie says he spoke Monday with the Macedonian Chief of Defense and conveyed Vermont’s sympathies.

Dubie says the Vermont National Guard stands in solidarity with its State Partnership country in this time of mourning.
