Vermont deer hunters are having more success this season than are hunters in Maine and New Hampshire.
Vermont Fish and Wildlife officials say they’re expecting a good deer season.
But in Maine hunters are having a tough time of it.
Deer-tagging stations in central and northern Maine are reporting low numbers for the season as hunters have a hard time finding deer following last winter’s harsh conditions that took a toll on the herd.
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say the kill in that state is about 15 percent below last year’s near-record.
Vermont Fish and Wildlife deer team chair Shawn Haskell says the winter of 2007-2008 wasn’t as hard on Vermont’s deer herd as in other nearby states.
