(Host) Vermont cheesemakers have earned praise from the American Cheese Society. The annual parade of cheeses was held last week in Washington, D.C. and among the awards in the competition were 13 for Vermont companies.

The award-winners included Cabot Creamery, Vermont Butter and Cheese of Websterville, Creek Road Cheese, Willow Hill Farm of Milton, Creek Road Cheese and the Taylor Farm in Londonderry.

Kate and Jonathon Wright own the Taylor Farm in Londonderry. Kate Wright says the state’s small size hasn’t stopped the judges from selecting Vermont cheeses as award winners:

(Wright) “Actually, Vermont has done incredibly well for the last few years, taking home a much larger percentage of the ribbons than our population would lead you to believe. I think Vermont cheeses are very competitive.”

(Host) The contest entries were judged in several categories, such as feta, goat’s milk and Dutch style. The Vermont Department of Agriculture says that the awards help to confirm Vermont’s reputation for quality farmstead products.
