(Host) Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier has won accreditation for its master’s programs.

The college was established two years ago when teachers at the school and investors bought its programs from Union Institute.

Vermont College President Tom Greene says most new institutions don’t get accredited so quickly.

(Greene) "I think it was a real testament to the strength of the academic programs that we were able to do it so quickly. Although the college is brand new, the academic programs are not and the MFA programs here are widely recognized as some of the top in the country with national book award winners as graduates and faculty and scholars in the visual arts."

(Host) Vermont College has three master’s degree programs in writing and the arts.

Greene says the college has a five-year master plan that calls for doubling the student body to 500 and the faculty to 160.
