A Vermont activist has sparked a national protest over global warming.

Bill McKibben is publicizing a nationwide rally on April fourteenth, with more than 1,000 events planned in 50 states.

The Middlebury College scholar in residence and author hopes the “Step It Up” protests will push Congress to reduce U.S. emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases 80% by 2050.

Thousands are expected to turn out in New York City, Los Angeles, and other spots across the country.

The Step It Up Web site lists nearly 60 events planned in Vermont.
