Vermont State Police say the police chief in Vergennes has been cited into court for driving under the influence of drugs.

Fifty-year-old Michael Lowe has been under investigation since he hit a parked car with his cruiser last month. Lowe was off duty when the accident happened June 7 in Vergennes. No one was hurt.

A responding trooper said Lowe showed signs of impairment, and a blood sample was taken.

State Police Lieutenant Bruce Melendy said Tuesday that toxicology tests on Lowe’s blood confirmed the presence of prescription medication.

Lowe has been cited into Addison District Court on August 10th to face the charge.
