The University of Vermont has won a $16 million grant to finance the statewide Vermont Genetics Network, a collaboration on biomedical research.

About 60% of the money will be distributed by UVM to its partner institutions: Castleton State College, Johnson State College, Middlebury College, Norwich University, and St. Michael’s College.

The award is the largest single competitive research grant in UVM’s history.

UVM officials say the funding will help finance laboratory renovations, as well as the purchase of research equipment and supplies for the faculty and undergraduates at the network partner colleges.
