UVM Wants To Reduce Size Of Tuition Increase

Administrators at the University of Vermont want to reduce the size of their proposed tuition increase for next year.

The Burlington Free Press says administrators are calling for an increase of 4.8 percent. Long-range planning had called for increasing tuition by 6 percent.

President Dan Fogel says the lower tuition increase is driven by the recognition of how much financial pressure students are under.

The increase would make in-state tuition for the next school year $12,000. Out-of-state tuition would be almost $31,000.

Officials hope the smaller increase will be approved next month by the Board of Trustees.
