UVM President Daniel Fogel is expected today to announce the university’s first round of layoffs, with up to 24 jobs on the chopping block.
Fogel told legislators on Wednesday that the school is putting off decisions about additional layoffs until officials learn about UVM’s financial health this spring.
He appeared before the House Appropriations Committee for his annual request for state funding.
Gov. Jim Douglas has proposed increasing UVM’s appropriation by 20 percent to a total of about $48 million.
