UVM considering all issues for targeted sports

The chairman of the University of Vermont trustees says it’s too early to say what the board will do about the school administration’s plan to eliminate varsity baseball and softball next year.

Ian Boyce says he knows the February 20 decision by school officials to do away with the sports has caused unrest and that the Student Government Association voted unanimously to try to get the decision overturned.

Boyce says it is too early in the process and that officials are dealing with the issue as quickly as they can.

The next full board meeting is in May. The executive committee is to meet in April.

The school has decided to do away with the programs because of a projected million dollar shortfall in next year’s athletic budget.
