The University of Vermont is cutting four varsity sports and restoring two others as part of a plan to strengthen its athletic programs. UVM Athletic Director Bob Corran says the changes are designed to strengthen recreational sports opportunities for all university students, while providing more resources to help varsity teams.

The plan will eliminate men’s and women’s tennis, men’s golf and men’s swimming. It will reinstate men’s indoor and outdoor track. The plan will also increase the number of athletic scholarships from 82 for eight sports to 124 for 20 sports.
