The University of Vermont’s Board of Trustees says it will not reconsider an administration decision to cut varsity baseball and softball.

The board decided Wednesday not to take up the decision by university officials calling for the elimination of the teams. Athletic Director Robert Corran had previously cut the sports to trim $1.1 million from the athletic department’s budget.

Board President Ian Boyce told a crowded meeting that included students and team members that the board would not render a decision.

He says the issue could come up for discussion in two future meetings. The 2010 budget is to be discussed by a trustee committee next month, and the full board is scheduled to meet in May.
